Tottenham Shifts Focus to 22-Year-Old Player, Prioritising His Acquisition Over Previously Favored Player

Tottenham Hotspur has been in talks to bring either Edmond Tapsoba or Micky van de Ven on board. But now, Spurs have modified their preferred choice.

In his few weeks at the club, Ange Postecoglou has shown impressive work in terms of new recruitments. New additions Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon have all greatly enhanced the squad.

Tottenham’s attention has now shifted to strengthening its defense. According to Dean Jones from GiveMeSport, the club has apparently altered its preferred choice between Van de Ven and Tapsoba.

Tottenham Prioritising Micky van de Ven Over Edmond Tapsoba

There is an urgent need for defensive reinforcements at Tottenham.

Cristian Romero is undoubtedly their best central defender and is likely to be a confirmed starter in the coming season. Among the other choices are Eric Dier and Ben Davies.

Without undermining their contribution, Tottenham is searching for an upgrade and has identified Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven as potential targets.

Recently, Football London reported that even though Tottenham is considering both players, they were leaning towards Tapsoba due to his on-the-ball skills, power, and pace.

However, Jones now reveals that the club has shifted its preference – they would now opt for Van de Ven.

He quoted: “It seems that Tottenham now prefers Van de Ven, albeit not by a large margin, and I don’t think they would be particularly upset regardless of who eventually joins.

“This won’t be their only defensive addition in this transfer window.”

Our Perspective:

Both Tapsoba and Van de Ven have shown remarkable performances in their respective Bundesliga clubs.

Given their age, 24 and 22 respectively, they are perfectly poised for a transition to a larger club, and it’s only a matter of time before that happens.

While Tapsoba, noted for his ‘terrifying heading abilities’ by Bundesliga.com, might be a more reliable pick due to his experience, Van de Ven possibly has a higher potential upside.

It will be intriguing to observe who Tottenham ultimately leans towards, though Spurs fans should be satisfied with either player.
