Tottenham Hotspur is currently eyeing Edmond Tapsoba, yet securing the Bayer Leverkusen star is expected to be tricky.
This is according to Ben Jacobs, a CBS Sports reporter, who was speaking with Chris Cowlin on YouTube.
Jacobs reports that Tottenham has indeed commenced negotiations to bring Edmond Tapsoba into their fold from Bayer Leverkusen.
However, Jacobs insists that Tottenham won’t have an unimpeded run at signing the defender due to the multitude of clubs also interested in him.
Jacobs notes Tottenham found it relatively straightforward to sign James Maddison earlier this week as Newcastle United seemed to shift their focus elsewhere.
But the path to Tapsoba will not be as uncomplicated, according to Jacobs, who suggests that a potential transfer of the Burkina Faso international could face serious hurdles.
Jacobs conveyed that while Tapsoba might have shown interest in joining Tottenham, he himself had not come across the same information.
“Tapsoba, the Leverkusen defender you mentioned, is another prospect and it’s certainly accurate that Spurs have made initial contact to kick-start discussions. I’m unclear about whether these discussions have progressed in the past one or two days, but I can verify that Spurs have started talks with Bayer Leverkusen,” Jacobs said.
“However, regarding Tapsoba, you need to comprehend that there are numerous clubs vying for him. So, just like the Maddison deal, Tottenham won’t have a clear route. This might cause complications and besides, it’s quite essential to recognize the player’s willingness. Other sources might suggest differently, but I’ve not yet heard about the player’s preference in this matter,” he added.

TBR Opinion: Comparatively, Micky van de Ven could be a more logical choice than Edmond Tapsoba for Tottenham
Tapsoba has demonstrated his capabilities as a stellar defender for Leverkusen since his 2020 move from Vitoria Guimaraes.
Given Tapsoba’s size, speed, strength, and ball-handling skills, it’s clear why Tottenham considers him a suitable candidate to bolster their defence in the years to come.
However, this transfer would come with a hefty price tag, implying Tottenham would be adding another right-footed centre back to their ranks.

Cristian Romero and Eric Dier, both right-footed, along with Davinson Sanchez, who is likely to depart, make up the current Tottenham defense.
In an attempt to balance the team with a left-footed centre back, considering Ben Davies’ uncomfortable fit and Clement Lenglet returning to Barcelona, Tottenham would ideally aim to sign one this summer.
Tottenham is also considering Micky van de Ven, a Wolfsburg defender who might be a better fit as a naturally left-footed centre back.
As a comparatively inexpensive option and a player who might not be as mature or well-rounded as Tapsoba at the moment, the Dutch player could potentially prove to be a superior choice for Spurs.
