Following Tottenham Hotspur’s official announcement on their new signee James Maddison from Leicester City, Paul Merson has shared his opinions about the deal.
Taking to Twitter, Merson praised Spurs for securing the 26-year-old Maddison, who has thus become the third player to be signed by the club since Ange Postecoglou took the reins.
According to BBC Sport, Tottenham has brought James Maddison on board for £40 million. The English international has signed a five-year contract to play for the team in North London.
Merson Commends Tottenham for Acquiring James Maddison
This signing is seen as a significant win for Spurs. Maddison had an impressive performance last season, scoring 10 goals and making nine assists in the Premier League for Leicester City.
If Leicester had managed to remain in the top rankings, it’s expected that Maddison’s cost would be significantly higher in this transfer period.
It’s clear that Paul Merson envisages the acquisition of Maddison giving Tottenham a boost, hinting that it might also positively impact Harry Kane by duplicating his stellar performance from the previous season.

With Harry Kane’s prolific performance last year, Spurs narrowly escaped having a poor season. Although Son Heung-min failed to match the amazing performance of the former year. Dejan Kulusevski, too, didn’t meet the high expectations placed on him after his initial months.
Rodrigo Bentancur did his part in goal contributions, but few other team members raised their performance.
Last season’s performance of Maddison, who made more assists than any other Tottenham player, gives hope to fans that he could potentially fill the void left by former Spurs player Christian Eriksen.
Maddison is known to create opportunities out of empty attempts, and he is expected to be at his best, hence no wonder Merson sees his move to Spurs as a positive one next season.
