Tottenham Hotspur have started working on summer transfers since they brought a new manager on board.
New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has facilitated the upcoming signing of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.
This is probably just the start for Tottenham as they aim to strengthen their squad after a disappointing season.
With Postecoglou moving to Spurs from Celtic, it is believed that he’ll attempt to bring some of his former players to N17.
One of them is reportedly Cameron Carter-Vickers, who Tottenham sold to the Parkhead team just a year ago.
As per the Sunday People (25/6; page 61), Postecoglou is interested in the United States international defender.
In addition to Carter-Vickers, the Tottenham manager is also reportedly considering Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate.
Pochettino praise
Some Tottenham fans might be frustrated at the idea of potentially signing a player they sold only 12 months ago.
Not because he isn’t talented; on the contrary, he is an exceptional defender who has contributed to Celtic’s return to consistent success.
The issue is more that Spurs previously had Carter-Vickers on their roster, sold him inexpensively, and might now need to spend a significant amount to reacquire him.
Nevertheless, the events had to unfold this way to reach the current situation. Carter-Vickers required the move to Celtic to truly realize his potential.
The 25-year-old consistently received praise for his potential, including from former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who believed him capable of becoming a star.
As stated in a 2017 football.london article, Pochettino suggested that Carter-Vickers had the potential to be “the best defender in England”.
Unfortunately, Carter-Vickers’ time at Tottenham didn’t progress as hoped, and his club career stalled for a while.
That has changed now. Postecoglou leads Spurs and knows precisely how skilled the defender is.
Carter-Vickers has arguably become the best defender in Scotland. If Postecoglou brings him back to the Premier League, perhaps he can live up to Pochettino’s expectations.
