Standout Performance Might Secure Spurs Veteran a Place in Postecoglou’s Plans

Tottenham Hotspur’s defender, Ivan Perisic, may be gradually securing his place in Ange Postecoglou’s team lineup following his engaging display in a recent pre-season game.

Perisic’s exceptional skills were on display again as he aided Spurs in their 5-1 triumph against Lion City Sailors of Singapore during their latest game on tour.

The 34-year-old might not be the first plays to consider when it comes to Spurs’ future under Postecoglou, but he may yet prove valuable.

The Croatian full-back, having joined Tottenham on a no-cost transfer last summer, might be working his way to a starting position.

Looking at his £180k-a-week salary, Perisic’s best chance of featuring this year might be as left-back, a position played today by Destiny Udogie in a friendly game.

However, with Udogie still developing his skills and Reguilon not making an outstanding impression, the veteran Croatian player might prove essential once again this season.

In spite of the fact that Spurs’ team did not see much transformation this summer, it will inevitably transition under the new management of Postecoglou.

Veteran players like Perisic will surely prove to be key during this transition and his new coach will likely be encouraged by the performance levels he is currently showcasing in Singapore.

Despite his age, Perisic is maintaining his fitness and his vitality on the field has not lessened from his World Cup days when he was a major challenge for England.

While Perisic may not be part of his manager’s long-term agenda, given he is now 34 and only has one year remaining under contract, he might still kick off the season against Brentford in August.

If this is to be Perisic’s last season with Spurs, he would, at the very least, want to be part of laying down a foundation for the team’s future success.

Postecoglou’s era has already gotten off to an exhilarating start with the inclusion of players like James Maddison and Manor Solomon.

While the media is busy with speculating Harry Kane’s possible exit, the sizable impact of promising signings like Maddison is often underappreciated.

It’s also easy to forget the stellar players Spurs has, ready to carry on the game.

Perisic joined Spurs on the back of an impressive season at Inter Milan and showed no signs then of retiring any time soon.

Despite being somewhat let down by his first season in the Premier League, he retains his confidence to show his value to the team.
