The manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou, is looking forward to keeping Tanguy Ndombele in the team for the forthcoming campaign.
As reported by sports journalist Ryan Taylor in an interview with Give Me Sport, the news revolves around the French player.
Tanguy Ndombele remains an enigmatic figure at Tottenham.
At 26 years old, he remains Tottenham’s most expensive acquisition, having joined from Lyon for £63m back in 2019.
Despite this, his coaches, both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, struggled to extract his full potential.
During the previous season, Conte deemed Ndombele excess to his plans, leading Ndombele to join Napoli and secure a Serie A win.
This summer, Postecoglou has welcomed Ndombele back at Tottenham and is considering retaining him in the team.
Just a few days into training, he confessed his satisfaction with what he had been observing.
Despite a minor injury curtailing his involvement in Tottenham’s pre-season exhibitions, it does not eliminate his potential contributions when the season kicks off.
Postecoglou’s ambition to retain Ndombele at Tottenham
Ryan Taylor commented on Ndombele and his teammate, Giovani Lo Celso, saying, “Both these players need to maintain their fitness. They’ve been plagued with injuries that hinder what they can deliver to Tottenham.
“I believe if they can extract performance from these players, the significance for the club would be more than any £20m transfer fee they could receive from a sale, which isn’t going to procure much more for Spurs presently.
“Therefore, I would hold on to both players, which seems to be Postecoglou’s plan, despite the interest from other clubs.
“I understand that Napoli has expressed interest in Lo Celso, and there’s a certain level of curiosity from Turkey for Ndombele.”
There have been offers for Ndombele this season, which would have been readily welcomed a few months ago.
However, Postecoglou displays hesitance in accepting any proposals rapidly while he is still scrutinizing his team.
Tottenham currently has an extensive mix of prominent players, and some will have to exit before the transfer window shuts.
The likelihood of Postecoglou wanting to hold on to Ndombele hints that the player’s career at Tottenham could be ready to truly take off.
Within a trio comprising James Maddison and Yves Bissouma, he could have the liberty to perform at his finest.
