According to Fabrizio Romano, KAA Gent’s forward, Gift Orban, has caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur’s talent scouts.
As Spurs continue to scout for upcoming strikers, they have reportedly settled a deal with Rosario Central’s Alejo Veliz, who is on his journey to North London.
Yet, as Romano mentioned in a recent AMP app update, Tottenham is not stopping at Veliz but is also considering a roster of other players, with Orban being one of them.
Tottenham Scouts Show Interest in Gift Orban
While the upcoming signing of Alejo Veliz is generating buzz for Tottenham, the club’s interest in Gift Orban might cause similar excitement.
Last season saw the impactful 21-year-old Nigerian deliver an outstanding run with Gent in Belgium, causing heads to turn with a commendable count of 20 goals in all competitions.
Orban, a player acclaimed as an ‘unbelievable’ striker by Hein Vanhaezebrouck (Het Nieuwsblad), might be gearing up for a significant transfer from Gent. This interest from Tottenham illuminates the new direction Ange Postecoglou aims to steer the club.
Although a deal for Orban isn’t on the table yet, Romano noted that among a range of players currently being eyed by Spurs, the scouting team has considerable appreciation for Orban.
He mentioned: “I am told that many names are being deliberated inside the club.
“The scouting crew holds high regard for Gift Orban.”
An Opinionated Perspective:
Tottenham’s present priority should be retaining Harry Kane.
If Kane continues his tenure, an additional striker is not necessary, particularly with the expectation of Veliz’s arrival in the very near future.
Despite his potential, while Tottenham’s interest in Gift Orban is justifiable, it’s unclear how he would fit into the team if Kane decides to make an exit. In such a situation, Postecoglou might then opt for a top-tier forward as a replacement. Orban, a promising player, lacks that status currently.
It would be intriguing to monitor whether Tottenham decides to pursue Orban in the ensuing weeks.
