Postecoglou Expresses Discontent with £20m Tottenham Player’s Shakhtar Performance

Today, Tottenham and Shakhtar Donetsk, the Ukrainian team, engaged in a heated friendly as part of their pre-season preparations.

Harry Kane lit the match for Spurs, showcasing the crucial role he plays for Tottenham. The captain of the England team bagged a hat-trick within 60 minutes in a sterling display of goal scoring.

Ange Postecoglou, the newly appointed Spurs manager, saw many positive aspects. His team’s midfield was improved by the presence of James Maddison, and their forwards presented a formidable threat.

Yet, like all coaches, Postecoglou aims for flawless execution, and it appears he was rather dissatisfied with midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg’s performance.

According to 90Min’s Sean Walsh, viewers of the game might have observed Postecoglou expressing ‘disgust’ as Hojbjerg heedlessly blasted the ball away, rather than maintaining possession.

Apparently, Postecoglou is setting high expectations for this season and anticipates more from his midfield. A case in point is Shaktar’s equalising goal, which was a result of a lacklustre clearance that rebounded towards Tottenham’s goal.

Considering Hojbjerg’s potential departure three years after his £20m transfer to Tottenham, it’s clear that Postecoglou had no hesitation in expressing his disappointment with the Danish player’s performance.

Tottenham Fans will Appreciate Postecoglou

While things may not always go according to plan, there are promising indicators in Postecoglou’s Tottenham team.

Postecoglou, the candid Australian, is not shy about holding his team to high standards and knows exactly how to communicate this to his players.

Tottenham fans will surely appreciate his expertise. His handling of such situations may not be as explosive as Conte’s, but it’s an effective strategy for letting his players know their subpar performance will not be tolerated.

Overall, Tottenham seems to be on a good trajectory. With Kane’s potential stay, the team might be gearing up for a strong season.
