Tottenham’s judgment will decide on the £15m player’s future

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, has an uncertain future a few days before the season opener.

Journalist Tom Barclay discussed the situation of the Danish international on The Tottenham Way podcast.

New manager Ange Postecoglou has a growing and large group of players at his disposal at Spurs.

Despite the fact that many members of the team are slated to leave this summer, Tottenham just signed Ashley Phillips a week ago, and there might be announcements for two more newcomers real soon.

Micky Van de Ven and Alejo Veliz underwent their medical examinations at the club yesterday, awaiting for their transfers to be finalized.

This implies that a minimum of twelve players will need to either be loaned or permanently transferred in the upcoming weeks.

The future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, one of the players, is uncertain at Tottenham.

The midfielder, worth £15m, has garnered interest from foreign clubs, but he might still be included in Postecoglou’s strategy.

In the end, the decision could be up to the 28-year-old himself.

Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham remains unresolved

Regarding Hojbjerg and his possibilities for the upcoming season, Barclay mentioned: “Hojbjerg is a fascinating case.

“Atletico Madrid, as many of us have reported, including myself, has expressed interest in him and are in discussions.

“However, as I stated about a week ago, I’m less certain now than before of his impending departure.

“I reckon Spurs, like with [Harry] Kane, would be open to bidding if they receive a desirable offer. Hojbjerg himself might play a part in the decision as well.

“The fact that he played yesterday [against Shakhtar] despite more players anticipated to play that didn’t, shows something.

“Meanwhile, [Yves] Bissouma was benched.”

“This implies, despite not being the natural fit for the fast, fluid and appealing football that Postecoglou aspires to implement, he has several strengths.

“While some supporters ridicule his sideways and backwards passing, he remains ultra-professional, dependable and played at the level he did for a reason.

“If the transfer falls through, I believe he could play a crucial role in this season.”

TBR View – It may not be a bad idea to sell Hojbjerg now

Postecoglou has a multitude of midfielders to utilize this season.

Young players like Pape Sarr and Oliver Skipp are getting better and may be more compatible with his system.

Even Giovani Lo Celso, who just months ago seemed certain to leave, may get a second opportunity.

With Yves Bissouma, Postecoglou has a player who might be a better match for his system than Hojbjerg.
