Micah Richards found himself puzzled by Alan Shearer’s suggestion that Harry Kane moving to Bayern Munich could be a positive step, with the potential for Tottenham Hotspur to have a buy-back clause after a year.
The two conversed about the ongoing speculation around the future of Spurs’ star player on The Rest Is Football podcast.
The uncertainty surrounding Kane’s imminent future persists. He brushed off these whispers on Sunday by scoring four goals for Tottenham in their pre-season victory against Shakhtar Donetsk.
However, a standing offer from Bayern Munich is a notable factor. Over the weekend, The Daily Mail informed that the powerhouse club from Bavaria has proposed an £86 million bid for the attacker.

Kane is keen to settle his future before the start of Tottenham’s Premier League matches, but time is ticking away for this to become a reality. Determining if Bayern will step back if he plays against Brentford this weekend is challenging.
Kane’s potential switch to Bayern has sparked mixed views among commentators. While some see it as a brilliant move for the striker to secure much-needed trophies, others aren’t sure if being part of a team that dominates their local league is indeed an exciting leap.
Shearer supports Harry Kane’s potential transition to Bayern Munich
Regarding whether Kane’s potential move to Bayern Munich would be beneficial, Shearer and Richards clearly failed to reach a consensus. Shearer, the highest goal scorer in Premier League history, backed his rival’s decision.
“Before anything else, I just want to say this: If he leaves, of course I would be thrilled as it means my record will stay intact, but personally, for him, I think it’s a wise move,” Shearer expressed on The Rest Is Football.

Richards retorted: “You can’t be serious, you’re spouting absolute gibberish!”
“Hear me out! He’s shifting to a massive football club that wins the domestic league regularly and has significant chances of conquering the Champions League. If he wishes to return after a year, Spurs could potentially have a buyback provision at a specific cost. Therefore, if he’s unhappy after a year, he could return and still beat my record,” Shearer added.
“Bayern will certainly not grant him a clause to come back to Spurs and overthrow Alan Shearer’s record, that’s just ludicrous,” Richards countered.
Importantly, Kane hasn’t publicly shown his hand yet. He has not voiced a desire to leave nor has he committed to stay with Spurs.
His position is advantageous. Tottenham will undoubtedly make substantial efforts to retain him. But, alternatively, he could become part of one of the world’s major clubs in the coming months. And if he decides to hold out till next year, many more options will be available to him.
These rumours are likely causing unwanted distraction for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham. However, Kane’s performance on Sunday suggests that he is perfectly capable of compartmentalising and focusing on the game.
