Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano hints at an imminent ‘outstanding’ Tottenham Hotspur announcement

Tottenham Hotspur is very close to confirming the transfer of Guglielmo Vicari.

The Spurs have shifted their focus from David Raya to the Empoli shot-stopper, and the talks have been progressing rapidly.

With swift negotiations, Tottenham was able to reach an agreement, and now, the final stages of the transfer have been underway for a few days.

Fabrizio Romano has now stated that Vicario has finished the second phase of his medical test with Tottenham.

Added to this, all the necessary paperwork is done, making it highly likely that the Italian will be introduced as a Tottenham player very soon.

Vicario has signed a contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2028, Romano reports.

‘Regarded as Italy’s second-best goalkeeper’

Given Romano’s recent statements, the next movement to anticipate will likely be the official announcement from Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham has been in search of a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris this season.

In their quest, they initially had their eyes on Brentford’s David Raya, but lately they seem to have considered other options.

It appears that Brentford was not budging on their £40 million evaluation for their goalkeeping asset.

Meanwhile, the estimated acquisition price for Vicario for Tottenham is just above £16 million.

Several reports, including those from Alasdair Gold, have spoken highly of Vicario.

According to Gold, ‘In Italy, it’s believed that only Inter’s Andre Onana outperformed Vicario in Serie A last season.’

‘He is considered the second-best Italian goalkeeper after Gianluigi Donnarumma of PSG,’ added Gold.

Italian footballing legend Gianluigi Buffon praised Vicario last year, stating his performance at Empoli was “remarkable.”

Besides, Tottenham is signing a player who was reportedly on Manchester United’s radar as well.

Overall, Vicario’s prospects look bright. It would be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming pre-season and beyond for the North London club.
