Tottenham’s Pursuit of Micky van de Ven Gains Momentum, Reveals Fabrizio Romano

Tottenham is ramping up its quest for a new central defender and is keen to secure a contract for Micky van de Ven.

The team has recently set its sights on the 22-year-old Dutch defender. Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou expresses a particular interest in Van de Ven, along with Edmund Tapsoba.

At this point, however, a definitive deal is yet to be reached between Tottenham and Wolfsburg.

Fabrizio Romano throws light on the delay in the deal, claiming that Van de Ven has expressed his intention to move to Tottenham; the hold-up is due to the clubs.

“Truthfully, the negotiations are in progress. It’s a concrete lead. Both Tottenham and Wolfsburg are in conversation, but an agreement is yet to be reached. Despite this, the discussions are making headway,” Romano expressed on his podcast, Here We Go.

“Negotiating with German clubs is always a challenge. They seek favourable payment terms, and that forms a significant part of the discussion. It’s not just about the fee, but also the repayment period. However, from what I understand, Van de Ven has given the go-ahead – he wants to play for Tottenham. The ball is in the clubs’ court now.”

Van de Ven’s acquisition might cost Tottenham around £30m. Yet, as is standard with most proceedings, the payment structure is delaying the final consensus.

A Step-Up is Due

Positive developments emerge for Tottenham this summer. Having succeeded in signing James Maddison, it is now vital that they continue this momentum with further signings.

Adding Van de Ven, acclaimed as ‘exceptional’, indeed represents a significant move. Although young, he brings invaluable experience, aligning with the characteristics Postecoglou is seeking in new players.

Finding the right partner to complement Cristian Romero is vital for Tottenham, and Van de Ven could be the missing piece.
