Player from Tottenham Must Impress Ange Postecoglou After a Difficult Summer

The new defender of Tottenham Hotspur, Destiny Udogie, has a significant amount to prove to his new boss, Ange Postecoglou.

Udogie was acquired by Tottenham for £15m in the previous summer but stayed on loan at Udinese for an additional 12 months.

Spurs spotted him after a standout season in 2021/22 when he secured a spot in Udinese’s main squad.

Playing as a crucial creative player on the left-wing, Udogie scored five goals and gave three assists from his position.

In spite of a less productive season recently, Udogie still managed to land three goals and set up four assists.

Antonio Conte’s team was keenly looking forward to having Udogie in the Spurs lineup for the next season.

However, several of them have since moved on, and Udogie now faces the task of impressing Ange Postecoglou and his new coaching squad at Tottenham.

Regrettably, his summer preparations have been less than perfect.

He needs to adapt swiftly to a system that may not highlight his best skills.

Similar to Oliver Skipp, Udogie was chosen by his national team to compete in the Under-21 European Championships this summer.

Skipp didn’t have a significant role for England but helped secure their victory in the final off the bench.

Unlike England, Udogie’s Italy was eliminated early in the group stages, suffering losses to France and Norway.

Complicating matters, Udogie only got to play in the first game of their three-match journey.

His failed clearance in his own penalty area resulted in France’s last-minute goal.

Fabiano Parisi replaced the 20-year-old for the rest of the tournament, even scoring a goal in their win against Switzerland.

Udogie wasn’t included even as a substitute and will have to raise his game when he links up with Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

He has only experienced playing as a wing-back, hence will have to swiftly familiarise himself with a more conventional full-back role.

There has been speculation that he might come back early for the pre-season to meet his new colleagues.

Pundits predict he will excel in the Premier League, but it remains to be seen if a player acquired specifically for Antonio Conte can flourish under Ange Postecoglou.
