Dele’s Thoughts on Kane and Dier

Neville inquired whether any of the experienced players of Tottenham provided him support during his Spurs days.

“Did any of the players ever approach you, suggesting you need help or should refrain from doing certain things? Especially the veterans?” questioned the former Manchester United player.

In response, Dele said: “It’s tricky to single out the seniors as we had a relatively young team, but there were a few individuals that I highly respect and are good friends of mine.

“I’m not sure if any of them fully understood what I was going through, as I was good at hiding it.

“People like Eric Dier are true friends, who are honest with you, and don’t always agree with you. These are the kind of friends that hold a special place in my heart.

“People like Eric, Harry, Sonny, Ben [Davies] – many who disapproved of what I was doing and weren’t scared to confront me about it. Especially Harry and Eric; those two were very frank there weren’t any public confrontations, more of quiet ‘why are doing this?’ kind of conversations.”

Dele’s frankness about his struggle with mental health issues and addiction deserves respect and admiration.

It will be a delight to see the midfielder returning to the Premier League this season, once again, playing the game he loves with a smile on his face.
