Daniel Levy demonstrates a keen fascination in acquiring Clement Lenglet without any transfer charges this summer.

Graeme Bailey disclosed this data about the French defensive player on the Talking Transfers Podcast.

The previous season, Lenglet spent his period on a loan with Spurs, and speculations are rife that he may be relinquished by Barcelona free of charge to curtail their salary expenses.

According to Bailey, Daniel Levy displays interest in this agreement as it offers a chance to enhance the squad without any financial implications.

Levy’s interest in Lenglet

Bailey presented his analysis on the Barcelona-based defender.

“Undeniably, the idea of a free transfer of Lenglet appeals to Daniel Levy. We’re talking about nearly £100m for Tapsoba and Van de Ven. That’s a hefty sum for Spurs. There’s an offer for Davinson Sanchez from Galatasaray, which looks like a possibility, but it will only fetch us £10m. These aren’t mandatory clauses, they don’t need to be settled upfront,” Bailey detailed.

Hard to criticise

No matter the differing views on Daniel Levy’s hesitance to heavy investments in new defense players, it’s not easy to disparage a free transfer move for a player of Lenglet’s caliber.

Although he might not have shown remarkable performance in the last season, enlisting him at no cost implies enrolling in a defensive player with Champions League experience and the distinctive ability to play as a left-footed centre-back who is good with ball control.

Certainly, questions may arise if Lenglet is being considered for the starting line-up, but if Micky van de Ven is nearly set to join Spurs, this recruit could contribute wisely to enhancing squad depth.
