Tottenham’s chase for ‘outstanding’ defender paused as the club adds £10m to price

Tottenham Hotspur is facing the chance of losing their pursuit of Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, in spite of their rigorous efforts to secure him.

Van de Ven is regarded by Tottenham as a fitting candidate for their central defence lineup. Alongside Edmund Tapsoba, the young Dutch player is seen as a perfect choice by Ange Postecoglou.

Contrary to this, recent news indicate that Wolfsburg is not inclined to let go Van de Ven, even though the player has shown a possible desire to be part of Tottenham.

The Wolfsburger Allgemeine reports that Wolfsburg now wants an offer nearer to £40m to release the 22-year-old player.

Currently, Tottenham is far away from the desired sum, leaving Wolfsburg satisfied with holding on to their player.

The WA indicates they would consider letting the player go if the £40m offer is on the table. But for now, it seems like Van de Ven will stay in the Bundesliga.

Considered as a stellar defender, Van de Ven would embrace the opportunity to shift to England.

However, until Wolfsburg’s selling price is met, Van de Ven is set to remain in Germany. His contract extends till 2027, so there is no immediate need for a sale.

Serious Consideration Required

Every deal involves negotiations, and Tottenham needs to decide if they are committed to securing Van de Ven now.

Without a doubt, Tapsoba also possesses great talent, leading to suggestions that Spurs might benefit from focusing more on signing him.

But, Tottenham needs to move fast. Acquiring a new defender this summer is high on Ange Postecoglou’s list, and if securing Van de Ven requires a higher price, it could be necessary to meet it.
