Destiny Udogie Optimistic Following £17m Tottenham Acquisition

Destiny Udogie expresses his gratitude towards the recent signing of Guglielmo Vicario by Tottenham Hotspur.

During the pre-season tour of Tottenham, The Athletic had a conversation with Udogie.

The Tottenham followers got their first glimpse of both the players in action yesterday.

In the game against West Ham, Guglielmo Vicario was the starting goalkeeper and unfortunately conceded two goals.

Vicario was replaced by Brandon Austin after halftime, a move that comprised part of team-wide swaps orchestrated by Ange Postecoglou.

In the second half, Destiny Udogie filled in for Sergio Reguilon who didn’t have an easy transition back into the Spurs squad.

Udogie, the young Italian player, instantaneously influenced the game by scoring an equalizing goal for Tottenham, thanks to an assist from Ivan Perisic.

Although the victorious goal for West Ham was scored by Gianluca Scamacca, Udogie and Vicario can be content with their inaugural performances for Tottenham.

The 20-year-old Udogie conveyed his contentment over Vicario’s summer joining.

This pairing could offer frequent combined appearances in the upcoming season.

Udogie Feels Priviledged with Vicario in Tottenham

When asked who amongst his peers at the club has been supportive, Udogie responded that Vicario considers him as his younger sibling.

“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have a fellow Italian here. It is remarkably significant,” Udogie stated.

“However, I must appreciate the entire squad for their support, they are all wonderful individuals including H [Harry Kane], [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg, [Eric] Dier, and many others.

“I have competed against him [Vicario] twice, once in this season and the previous one. He is an exceptional goalkeeper.”

This summer, Guglielmo Vicario has a solid chance of securing his place as Tottenham’s primary goalkeeper.

Hugo Lloris and Fraser Forster, in contrast to Vicario, abstained from the tour, with Lloris expected to depart this summer.

Compared to Vicario, Udogie’s ascend into Tottenham’s premier team seems arduous.

The left-back positions can be occupied by the likes of Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon, Sergio Reguilon and Ivan Perisic.

Yesterday, Davies played a center-back role, and Perisic displayed an impressive performance on the wing, which could open up chances for Udogie.

At present, both the Italian players have ample reasons to anticipate substantial play time in the coming season.
