Fabrizio Romano offers up-to-the-minute transfer news about Tottenham’s £35m forward interest

Tottenham is reportedly interested in a young forward, but as Fabrizio Romano reveals, a European club seems to be closer to gaining his signature.

Tottenham is experiencing a hectic summer with interesting new signings and a captivating new coach. However, there is concern due to rumours that Bayern Munich is making a push to acquire their star player, Harry Kane.

This has encouraged the Spurs to scout new forwards in the transfer market. Tottenham has been associated with Wahi this summer, but a German club seems to be taking the lead in signing him.

Romano updated with the latest developments regarding the forward’s future. He mentioned: “As of now, Eintracht Frankfurt appears to be making a renewed effort to recruit Elye Wahi.

“Despite Chelsea having their bid turned down by Montpellier, they remain in the competition with a plan to loan Wahi to Strasbourg. Eintracht continues to stress their long-term project centered around Wahi.”

Tottenham’s bid for Wahi is not in the lead

It’s unsurprising to see a plethora of clubs interested in the French player. Priced at £35m, the young star, at just 20 years old, has been making an impact in top-tier football by scoring regularly.

Wahi has 32 goals from 91 appearances to his name. Averaging a goal every three games is an impressive record, especially for a player of his age.

If Spurs are to lose Harry Kane, they would need to ensure that they bring in a few additional attacking players. Wahi would be a fantastic choice.

He is young, brings high potential, and already has a respectable scoring record. Given the right environment, he can certainly morph into a formidable forward in the not too distant future.

Pascal Gastien, earlier this year, lauded Wahi as per Jeunes Footeux, “I consider him one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 for his age.”

However, Eintracht Frankfurt seems to have the upper hand in the race. If Tottenham is serious about securing his services, they’ll have to move swiftly.

Even if Kane decides to stay this summer, bringing Wahi to the Spurs would be a great move. He could potentially step up as Kane’s successor, who only has a year remaining on his contract.
