Potential £40m Transfer of ‘Incredible’ Defender Could be on the Cards for Liverpool Post-Szoboszlai

While Liverpool has already set sights on Dominik Szoboszlai, Levi Colwill, who is also a prospect for Chelsea, has caught their attention. Colwill is keen on having some crucial conversations with Mauricio Pochettino before looking into Chelsea’s recent contract proposal. Liverpool, in the company of Manchester City, are among the Premier League enthusiasts keeping an eye on Colwill.

The Evening Standard reports that Colwill has received a fresh contract offer from Chelsea, riding on the back of his commendable loan tenure at Brighton & Hove Albion. Guided by Roberto De Zerbi, Colwill made 17 team appearances and delivered two assists. But, his commitment to Chelsea hinges on planned discussions with Pochettino.

Colwill Eager for Important Conversations at Chelsea, Liverpool Closely Watching His Circumstances

Aiming to anchor Colwill’s future, Chelsea is prepared to offer him a new extensive-term contract – a move endorsed by Pochettino. Nonetheless, Colwill is holding off on signing until discussions with Pochettino unfold. He would rather not be an emergency backup for Chelsea’s crowd of defenders in the approaching season.

Colwill is concerned that his place in England’s squad for Euro 2024 could be in jeopardy if he benches for the year. His exemplary performances at Brighton have caught the eyes of Gareth Southgate, prompting Brighton to make a futile record bid of £40m in an attempt to rope in Colwill.

Chelsea’s actions in securing Colwill’s new contract are under the close scrutiny of Brighton, Liverpool, and Manchester City. However, Chelsea is staunch in its stand to turn down any incoming offers for Colwill, asserting his non-negotiable availability at any price, considering his contract runs through to 2025.

Tottenham Too Vocalizes Interest in Pursuing Colwill Come Summer

In case Colwill turns down Chelsea’s new contract, Liverpool may try to pry open Chelsea’s stance by seeking his transfer. Liverpool’s curiosity in Colwill has been kindled post the successful acquisition of Szoboszlai, and they’ve revealed their readiness to meet his £60m release fee levied by RB Leipzig.

Among Brighton and Manchester City, Tottenham too is allegedly eying Colwill for a potential signing. Colwill, as a young center-back, holds a high standing among the Spurs, with internal debates about a probable move in progress, though no decisive steps have been taken.

Any team contemplating signing Colwill would potentially need to outdo Brighton’s £40m bid. Chelsea is steadfast in its resolve not to let him go, especially considering the impressive strides he made under De Zerbi during the 2022/23 season, his debut year in the Premier League.
