Recent reports suggest that Barcelona is seeking roughly £12.8 million to part ways with midfielder Franck Kessie, a prospect seemingly exciting for Tottenham Hotspur.
The source of this information is Sport, a Spanish medium, which also asserts that Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder is known to Barcelona.
So far, the Spurs have secured Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon for the summer, yet they still urgently require defensive reinforcements.
There have been abundant rumours of Tottenham’s interest in Bundesliga pair Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.
However, The Times recently suggested that Tottenham could swoop in for Barcelona’s Franck Kessie. Furthermore, Spanish reports propose that Barcelona may be willing to let Kessie leave for a bargain price this summer.
Barcelona expects a minimum of £12.8m for Kessie
The sports publication, Sport, states that Barcelona is ‘conscious’ of Kessie’s potential Tottenham and Bayern Munich deal.
The medium also infers that Kessie might quickly make his exit from Camp Nou after Xavi’s team concludes their pre-season tour the following week.
Barcelona has alerted interested clubs that they are looking for a minimum of 15 million euros (£12.8 million) for Kessie’s transfer.
After switching to Spain from AC Milan the previous summer, Kessie has had a hard time securing a solid spot on Barca’s team.
While playing for Milan, the 26-year-old was recognized as an ‘extraordinary’ player and was among the top performers in Serie A during the 2021-22 season.
This may lead to the possibility of Spurs having to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the upcoming weeks, given the player is speculated to be moving to Atletico Madrid.
If Kessie could revive the form that won him his Spain move, he would definitely be a viable replacement.
Despite concerns about the Ivory Coast international’s lack of game time this past year, a Tottenham deal under £13 million could be a relatively low-risk strategy.
