According to Journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal is currently inspecting a potential transaction to acquire Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Via a post on Twitter, Ornstein, a journalist from The Athletic, disclosed the rationale behind Arsenal’s consideration for the Spanish player.
Arsenal has been successful in developing a robust team under Mikel Arteta, having already made three significant acquisitions this summer.
They shattered their transfer record for Declan Rice and added players like Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber to their ranks.
Since then, fresh transfers have slowed, and Arteta’s squad seems rather oversized now.
Despite this, the club never ceases to look out for favorable deals in the transfer market, and they might have spotted one.
David Ornstein asserts that Arsenal has shown interest in David Raya, a player Tottenham pursued earlier this summer.
Bayern Munich has also shown interest in the goalkeeper valued at £40m.
Ornstein indicates Arsenal’s curiosity in Raya
Through a tweet, Ornstein shared the information and mentioned: “EXCL: Arsenal surveying deal to acquire Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
No offer has been placed yet but #BrentfordFC has taken note of the interest.
“#FCBayern is also in pursuit, but 27yo seems more inclined to join #AFC. #NFFC thinking about Matt Turner; valuation differs, but dialogues continue.”
David Raya’s performance at Brentford has been noteworthy since moving from Blackburn, and he played a pivotal role in their promotion to the Premier League.
However, it appears improbable that he would abandon Brentford just to be a substitute goalkeeper somewhere else.
It is evident that Raya feels primed to challenge in European football next season.
Arsenal could present that opportunity with the Champions League, but at present, Aaron Ramsdale is the undeniable first-choice goalkeeper.
Ornstein’s hint at a possible exit for Matt Turner may suggest Arsenal’s see Raya as a backup to the English player.
If Raya’s options for departing are limited, shifting to Emirates might not be a disastrous move.
Brentford has already signed on Mark Flekken as a potential substitute for the 27-year-old goalkeeper.
On the surface, it seemed rational for Raya to depart from Brentford while his value is at its peak.
However, if he ends up warming the bench at the Emirates, it may not be what Raya had initially imagined, despite being a great deal for Arsenal.
