Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly opened up a potential transfer for Giovani Lo Celso, with opportunities being proposed to various clubs, including Spanish champions Barcelona.
Lo Celso, an Argentine, joined Spurs in the summer of 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain and was hailed by many, including Jose Mourinho, as an ‘exciting’ prospect (Guardian) during his inaugural season. However, he wasn’t able to meet the high expectations.
Now, Tottenham is prepared to permanently part ways with Lo Celso. Barcelona is among several clubs that have been offered an opportunity to welcome him, as per the reports from Mucho Deporte.

Tottenham proposes Giovani Lo Celso transfer to Barcelona
In 2019, Tottenham finalized a deal worth a staggering £55.3 million for Giovani Lo Celso (Guardian).
The Argentine had just come off a spectacular season with La Liga’s Real Betis, and everyone at Spurs was optimistic he’d flourish under Mauricio Pochettino.
Unfortunately, the now-Chelsea manager was relieved of his duties just few months into the season, and Lo Celso struggled to secure a regular spot under various succeeding managers.
The report now states that Tottenham, following another season of Lo Celso’s loan in Spain, are keen to dispose of Lo Celso permanently, with Daniel Levy pitching him to numerous clubs.
Barcelona, where Xavi is reportedly a big admirer of the Argentinian midfielder, is one of the clubs given the opportunity to recruit him.

Commentary:
It’s unfortunate that Lo Celso’s tenure at Tottenham did not turn out as expected.
With his impressive performance for Betis during his last season there, he seemed primed to make a significant impact in the Premier League.
However, following a lackluster stint in North London, a lasting departure seems to be the most beneficial course for all concerned parties this summer.
What remains to be seen is how much Levy will be asking for in order to consent to Lo Celso’s exit in the upcoming weeks.
