Gary Lineker Lauds Tottenham’s ‘Exceptional’ James Maddison Signing

During the summer transfer period, Tottenham Hotspur has acquired James Maddison, and sports pundit Gary Lineker has shared his thoughts on the addition.

It’s a massive transition period for Tottenham at present. Since failing to secure a spot in Europe in the last season, they’re currently in the process of re-establishing their team under the leadership of newly-appointed manager, Ange Postecoglou.

Maddison is one of the recent acquisitions that has sparked enthusiasm among Spurs supporters. He’s a seasoned offence-oriented midfielder—a role that has been missing in the club for some time—and his style seems to align seamlessly with that of Postecoglou.

Acquired from relegated Leicester City, the 26-year-old Maddison came with a price tag of a rumoured £40million. With this hefty investment, Spurs have shown significant trust in Maddison to help propel them back towards the top of the rank.

Gary Lineker’s Thoughts on Spurs Adding Maddison

Lineker, a former Spurs player, didn’t express overall confidence about their forthcoming season, especially with the uncertain future of Harry Kane. However, he was noticeably upbeat about the acquisition of James Maddison.

Discussing the offensive midfielder, he stated to PA, via BBC, “Spurs has made an extraordinary choice in recruiting James Maddison.

“He’s a far more superior player than many assume, he’s indeed first-rate. His addition is noteworthy, but they still have a vast gap to close.”

His satisfaction over Maddison’s signing is unsurprising given how the club has been playing lackluster football under the previous managers.

Even though Kane netted 30 Premier League Goal in the previous season, the club’s midfield has lacked a consistent goal-scorer. This is a gap that Maddison is ideally suited to fill.

In the prior Premier League season, Maddison emerged as one of the few beacon of hope in Leicester’s squad. With a commendable performance, he managed to rack up 10 goals and nine assists in the league.

Provided he retains this momentum at Spurs, the club can look forward to an encouraging season, as he is expected to set up more scoring opportunities for his world-class teammates.
