James Maddison’s 2021 tweet about Harry Kane creates a buzz

James Maddison, Tottenham Hotspur’s target, has previously referred to Harry Kane as the best forward in the world.

Spurs are preparing for a significant summer as they work on reshaping their squad under Ange Postecoglou’s management.

Maddison has become a top choice for the Australian coach, and Tottenham seems to be closing in on a deal to sign him.

According to The Athletic, Spurs and Leicester are anticipated to reach an agreement for the 26-year-old this week.

Though Spurs initially faced competition from Newcastle for Maddison’s services, they are progressing with their efforts to secure him after Newcastle cooled their interest.

Tottenham has been in need of midfield creativity since Christian Eriksen left in 2020, and many believe that Maddison will finally fill that gap.

Leicester’s star is an obvious admirer of Tottenham’s current striker, Harry Kane.

Maddison’s tweet on Kane

In 2021, Maddison tweeted his admiration for Kane during the European Championships.

Kane, 29, had yet to score in the tournament’s early stages but went on to net a crucial goal against Germany, followed by two more against Ukraine in the quarter-final.

Responding to criticism during the group stages, Maddison defended Kane in a tweet, saying: “Harry Kane… best centre forward in world football for me. People tried to talk because he didn’t score for a couple of games but goes back to that old saying, form is temporary but class is permanent.”

Maddison, who had trouble securing a spot in England’s national team a few years ago, has since become a vital member of Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Fans of Spurs anticipate seeing Maddison and Kane playing together next season after their recent performances for England.

Kane’s future at Spurs has been uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract. However, it’s unlikely that Tottenham will entertain a sale this summer.

By signing players like Maddison, Spurs hope to persuade Kane to commit to a new contract in the coming months.
