It appears that PSV Eindhoven is now interested in acquiring Davinson Sanchez, a disregarded defender from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Further information about the Colombian’s career path has been disclosed in a report by the Dutch magazine, Voetbal International.
One overt flaw in Tottenham’s strategy was their vulnerable defence.
Among the top teams in the Premier League, Spurs was the one that let in the highest number of goals last season.
Despite Antonio Conte’s fame for toughening up his teams, he struggled to bring out the best in his Tottenham crew.
Hoping to remedy the situation, but to no avail, were Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason, both appointed after Conte’s dismissal.
The most embarrassing game was the 6-1 clobbering by Newcastle in which Stellini switched to a defence of four.
During the thrashing, Stellini turned to Davinson Sanchez, who had received jeers from the Spurs crowd when made to substitute previously then replaced shortly after.
Sanchez is apparently willing to exit Tottenham this summer, and PSV Eindhoven might be his ticket out.
Currently, his £65,000 weekly income falls short of Spurs’ expectations and his connection with the fans is somewhat strained.
PSV’s Interest in Tottenham’s Defender Sanchez
The report from VI implies that PSV views Sanchez as a potential asset for their team.
The 27-year-old may rejoin his previous leader Peter Bosz, under whom he served during his last season at Ajax before switching to Tottenham.
Galatasaray is also a potential destination, as Sanchez is considering all possible options this summer.
It is rumored that Tottenham has a £13m price tag on the Colombian.
This investment would lead to a substantial loss on the defending player who was initially signed up by Mauricio Pochettino for a then record £42m in 2017.
Pochettino displayed great faith in Sanchez, but the player failed to meet the set standards.
His inconsistent playtime over the recent seasons has led to his performance suffering.
PSV, on the other hand, could be an excellent opportunity for Sanchez to restart his career away from Tottenham.
His departure might also pave the way for the introduction of new centre-backs like Micky Van de Ven or Edmond Tapsoba.
