Tottenham Hotspur is on the brink of securing James Maddison, a talented player Roy Keane once advised to snub Arsenal’s interest.

Spurs currently display an aggressive stance, having already acquired Dejan Kulusevski and Guglielmo Vicario through permanent deals and are now poised to bring onboard a Premier League top-performing midfielder.

As confirmed by Sky Sports correspondent Dharmesh Sheth, Maddison is set to undergo a medical checkup for Tottenham, paving the way for his transition to North London.

Roy Keane’s Past Advice to James Maddison: Turn Down Arsenal’s Approach

A couple of years back when Arsenal faced a challenging phase, it was difficult for critiques to grasp what Mikel Arteta was endeavoring to construct at the club.

Concluding the 2020/21 season at the eighth position with an exit from all European tournaments, many critics demanded Arteta’s immediate ousting at the end of that tenure.

So, in quest of a new attacking midfielder, Arsenal had linked their search to James Maddison and Martin Odegaard following that season.

We now know that Arsenal ended up signing the latter. However, before that decision, Roy Keane publicly dissuaded Maddison from thinking about joining the Emirates.

Keane clarified to ITV (August 7, 2021, 5:00 PM): “If he plans to leave Leicester, I don’t perceive Arsenal as his best option, might be the only choice, yet, if I were him, I would stay put.”

Editor’s Perspective:

Arsenal made no overtures to Maddison that summer; they instead procured Odegaard’s services.

Odegaard has since established himself as a linchpin for the Gunners, even earning the club captain title last year. With an exceptional performance last season, he comfortably outperforms Maddison in skill and prowess.

Nevertheless, Tottenham should be thrilled about the prospect of signing Maddison, an impressive player in his own right who promises to elevate their game next season.

The forthcoming season will offer an intriguing comparison: Who will shine brighter, Maddison or Odegaard?
