Tottenham Weighing Up Acquisition of ‘Exceptional’ Player

Tottenham has yet to acquire a fresh face for their defence this summer.

It was apparent last season that the club located in North London needed more strength in their defence. However, just a fortnight before the new season commences, Tottenham is yet to bring in a new defender.

Nonetheless, the lack of signings does not reflect a lack of effort. As per Fabrizio Romano, who spoke on the Here We Go Podcast, Tottenham is keeping tabs on Micky Van de Ven as a prospective addition to their ranks.

Earlier in the week, The Athletic revealed that negotiations with Van de Ven had reached an impasse, signifying a probable discontinuation of a potential deal. However, according to Romano, Tottenham is still maintaining interest in the Dutch player and considering making a move to acquire him.

Van de Ven Remains a Feasible Option

Romano divulged details regarding the ‘extraordinary’ defender.

Tapsoba is a top target, however, he comes with a hefty price tag. Tottenham is still closely monitoring Micky Van de Ven’s situation and is well-acquainted with Lenglet’s availability in the market. So let’s wait and see,” said Romano.

Time to Act Fast

Tottenham is in desperate need of shoring up their defense, and they need to do it swiftly.

Defenders, particularly those positioned at the centre, require some time to adapt to the team’s system and get to know their colleagues to deliver as efficiently as Ange Postecoglou would anticipate.

Both Van De Ven and Tapsoba would make valuable additions to Tottenham’s line-up. However, if Spurs wish for these players to perform optimally right off the bat, they need to finalize these agreements as soon as possible.
